This Child came from her, but was sent from God. Instead, Mary “treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Over and over again, Mary kept her attention on all that was happening and being said about her baby boy, her God and Savior. Take your time with baby Jesus – I’ll be over here.” ![]() And Mary might very well have said, “Yeah, that’s neat. When the shepherds arrived, coming to see Jesus, they were telling everybody what they saw in the fields, the angel’s message that today a Savior was born in Bethlehem, and how a great number of angels appeared praising God. I’m sure Mary did some of those things with baby Jesus. Plus, she just had a baby – isn’t that the time new mothers typically get lost in staring at their newborn? Counting the toes, touching their fingers, listening to their tiny squeaks and noises, looking at their nose and eyelashes and eyebrows and the shape of their lips…precious thoughts a mother welcomes to take her mind off of how tired and sore she feels after having a baby. Her preparation for Christmas could be finished. You’d think that, by now, she’d be ready for something new. She heard Joseph retell his vision of the angel who said, “Call him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”. ![]() She spent three months with Elizabeth who saw her and rejoiced with her at the birth of their Lord.She had plenty of time to think about the words the angel Gabriel had spoken to her.she had the Old Testament prophecies we just read and then some in her mind.She had already sung a hymn of praise, rejoicing in God her Savior. ![]() She had already celebrated the coming of the Savior with family. She already knew the meaning of Christmas. (NIV84, Luke 2:19)Ĭan Christmas ever get old? When could it get old? For several months, Mary had the opportunity to prepare herself for Christmas. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
